Authors Ask Readers for Five-Star Amazon Book Reviews
Clint Cox isn’t afraid to be bold. And it has won him 54 five-star reviews (and counting) on Amazon.com.The first-time author of Christmas Notes, a story about how an orphan turns around a man’s bad spirit during the holidays, has figured out that in order to get readers to write five-star reviews about his book on Amazon, all he had to do was ask.
“After you have sold yourself and your book to someone, the two of you should feel somewhat like friends,” Cox said. “It is at this point that you should ask every person that buys a book from you to give you a five-star review on Amazon.”
Not that it’s easy. First he had to get up close and personal with readers, something that takes a lot of planning and preparation. But he has found it is essential in book marketing. Christmas Notes was published before the holidays in 2011, and so Cox’s plan was to get in front of as many people as possible during the season. “I booked myself at some of the top Christmas shows in the western United States to be able to get my name and book exposed to as many people as possible,” he said. “All of my events had 25,000 or more attendees. One event had 50,000. I personally sold about 4,000 books in three months.”
